Round One Battle Of Titans Goes To Mercy

No. 2 Bobcats upset No. 1 Mount Notre Dame

The last time Mercy and Mount Notre Dame met in volleyball was for the Ohio Division I state title last fall.  The Cougars won that match and their fifth title overall but it was a different story last night on the Cougars' home floor.

Mercy, ranked No. 2 in the city and state, upset No. 1-ranked Mount Notre Dame 25-15, 24-26, 25-17,24-26, 15-9 in a Girls Greater Catholic League Scarlet Division battle last night.

The Bobcats' attack was led be senior outside hitter Missy Harpenau who recorded 33 kills on the night.  Junior Stephanie Vorherr added 15 kills and 24 digs.

 

 
The Cougars, who suffered their first loss of the season, was led by All-American candidate Rachel Adams, who recorded 27 kills.

Mount Notre Dame entered the game ranked fourth in the country by Prep Volleyball.com while Mercy was ranked No. 34.

Round two in the season series is scheduled for Sept. 27 at Mercy High School.
