St. X Swimmer Commits To Indiana
St. Xavier senior swimmer Jim
Barbiere has made an oral commitment to swim for Indiana
University, according to St. X coach Jim Brower.
Barbiere, who was state champion
in the 100 backstroke (50.06) as a junior, was part of St.
Xavier’s ninth consecutive state team title last season.
Barbiere was also on the state
champion 200 medley relay and 400 free relay teams.
According to the Swimming World
magazine website, Barbiere won the 100 yard back (50.93) at
the YMCA Short Course national championships. He also won the
50 meter back (27.81), 100 meter back (59.36) and 100 meter
free (53.44) at the YMCA Long Course national championships.
Brower said Barbiere’s father
also swam at Indiana and made the Olympic team.
The magazine’s Web site first
reported the commitment Oct. 7.
