Mason’s Miracle Run

Comets playing in state fast-pitch semifinals

Mason’s miracle fast-pitch tournament run continues on Friday as the upstart Comets take on Elyria in a state semifinal game at 12:30 p.m. at Brookside Park in Ashland.

The unranked Comets (17-14) finished the regular season losers of four of their last five games and ended with a record of 11-14.

But Mason got hot when it mattered most and now advance to the state tournament for the first time in school history.

Mason has defeated three area ranked teams in St. Ursula, Hamilton and Fairfield and advanced to the state semifinals with a 4-3 win over Northmont.

Senior pitcher Carly Miller (14-7) leads Mason on the mound and recorded 13 strikeouts against Northmont in the regional final.  Kristin Miller, who was 2-for-4 against Northmont, leads the team in hitting with a .400 average.
