Thunderhawks Stay Perfect In
GMC
By Bret Sims
The Lakota
East Thunderhawks remained perfect in the GMC in boys' soccer
with a 1-0 victory over the winless Oak Hill Highlanders at
Hopewell Stadium.
The 'Hawks
wasted no time in scoring the only goal of the game which came
with less than two minutes gone by in the first half on a free
kick from just outside the 18-yard mark by senior midfielder
Chris Haught-Thompson.
Oak Hill’s
goal keeper Sean Teepen misplayed the ball as he dove towards
the near post while the ball took an odd bounce and found the
back of the net on the opposite side.
Lakota East
clearly had the game in hand through the entire match and were
never really challenged until late in the second half when the
Highlanders managed to get off a couple of shots on East’s goal.
East would
end the game with 27 shots on goal compared to only seven for
Oak Hills. Oak Hills could only muster one shot on goal the
entire first half as the Thunderhawks’ offense kept the ball at
the Oak Hills end of the field for most of the half.
The lone
bright spot for the Highlanders was junior goal keeper Sean
Teepen who had eight saves, most of them being impressive saves
and he went airborne, stretching out and preventing several
goals from being scored.
The road
for Lakota East is a tough one with Mason, Colerain and Lakota
West still on their schedule and undefeated in the GMC as well.
East
improves to 5-3 overall and 3-0 in the GMC. Oak Hills drops to
0-8 overall and 0-3 in the GMC. |
