State titles won by several local schools, individuals

It was a stellar weekend for several different Cincinnati schools and individuals at state tournament competitions this past weekend.

Lakota West won the area’s only state baseball title beating Mentor 4-0 at Cooper Stadium in Columbus.  It is the first state baseball title for Lakota West and the first ever in school district history.

West (28-5) came into the game ranked fourth in the state in the final Associated Press state poll while Mentor was No. 8.

Sophomore Bryan Beaver scattered four hits and struck out six batters to lead the Firebirds.  West scored all of their runs in a 4-run fourth inning outburst led by Tadd Dombart’s 2-run triple.

At the state track and field meet at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium at Ohio State University, Harrison’s Chris Littleton won the discus throw (183.9) in Division I competition.
