News & Notes
There is a
chance Kings could name a new girls’ basketball coach by the
last week of April, Kings athletic director Matt Koenig said
Friday.
The
athletic department has received up to 18 applications as of
Friday (April 6) and Koenig said resumes will be accepted until
Tuesday (April 10).
“My
committee will review the resumes on April 16 (after our spring
break is over) and begin interviews at the end of that week and
hopefully have a coach in place by the last week of April,”
Koenig said.
Koenig said
he is looking for an individual who is willing to be visible not
only at the high school level, but at the junior high and youth
levels.
“The new
head coach will need to make it a priority to reach out to those
kids and parents so they have something to look forward to when
they get to high school,” Koenig said.
Koenig
added the summer camps will be emphasized in order to improve
the level of basketball throughout the school system.
“We have a
great setup (and) support system among our parents and it is a
matter of finding someone who can put the pieces of the puzzle
together to build a championship program,” Koenig said.
Katie
Treherne resigned as girls’ basketball coach in late March.
Kings was 10-11 this past season. Treherne was 98-54 in seven
seasons with the Knights.

Three Badin
football players have made decisions on where they will continue
their education and athletic careers, Badin coach David Wirth
said.
Defensive
back Josh Alcorn and running back Robert Urmston have committed
to Thomas More College. Offensive tackle Charlie Hartkemeyer has
committed to Wittenberg.
Alcorn was
an All-Greater Catholic League, all-district and honorable
mention all-state selection. Urmston was an all-league
selection. Hartkemeyer was injured in Week 5 and was out the
remainder of the season.
Badin
finished 7-3 overall, 5-2 in the GCL Central division. The Rams
won four consecutive games to end the season.
“I am
excited about next season and our freshman class coming in is a
great one,” Wirth said.
