New Perspective For Moeller Football

By Mike Dyer

It’s safe to say there is a new perspective and focus on the part of the Moeller football team this fall.

After the death of senior linebacker Jordan Bessey in a car accident Monday, players and coaches said he will honor their teammate this season and think about him when they are on the field.

Moeller opens with Mason in the Crosstown Showdown Aug. 24 at 6:15 p.m. at Miami University.

Moeller coach Bob Crable said Tuesday he is starting to plan how Bessey will be honored on the Crusaders’ uniforms. He said at minimum a sticker would be placed on the helmet. Crable said he believed it is the first time a football player died as a current student at the school.

“I hope God’s plan for his teammates is they don’t forget,” Crable said.

Bessey, who was considered a Division I prospect, had 22 tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles in nine games last season.

“He was very energetic and loved life,” Moeller athletic director Barry Borman said. “He did everything with a great enthusiasm. I know (the coaching staff) was looking forward to him helping the program a lot this year.”

Visitation is Friday from 4-8 p.m. at E.C. Nurre Funeral in Amelia. The funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at the same location.
