Higgins New Head Hoop Coach At Colerain
By Mike Dyer
Kevin
Higgins said “it was everything you want in a job.”
That’s how
the new Colerain head boys’ basketball coach described his
situation after being officially named Monday morning by
incoming athletic director Dan Bolden.
“We think
he is our right choice,” Bolden said. “He talks a lot about
teaching. He is very student-athlete centered in and out of the
classroom.”
Higgins,
30, is a St. Xavier graduate. He coached at Western Hills last
season and Aiken four years prior to the Mustangs.
Higgins
said he believes it’s an opportunity to help establish the
program in the always-competitive Greater Miami Conference.
“It’s going
to take some hard work and a commitment from the coaching staff
and players,” Higgins said. “It’s getting the kids to believe
they will win.”
Former
coach Rex Brooking left the position to become an assistant
principal, Bolden said. The Cardinals were 6-15 in Brooking’s
one season as coach.
