On a windy, chilly
day at the Division I Boys District Golf Championships, Lakota
East junior Aidan Javed became only the second boys' golfer in
Thunderhawk golf history to qualify for the state championship.
Javed secured the
third and final qualifying spot by shooting a 4-over-par 76 last
Wednesday at Weatherwax Golf Course. Only the top three teams
and the top three individuals qualify from districts to make it
to state tourney.
East head coach Jeff
Combs is very confident in Javed’s ability to compete at the
state level.
“Aidan plays national
tournaments throughout the year and he is ready both physically
and mentally to compete on this stage,” said Combs. “I think he
has as good a chance as any golfer in Ohio to win the
championship.”
The only other East
golfer to qualify for state was Matt Senter (2003) who went on
to a 12th place finish.
“It should be a great
time for Aidan,” said Combs. “I know I am going to enjoy
watching him.”
The Division I Boys
State Golf Championships will be held at The Ohio State
University Scarlet Golf Course October 19 and 20.
