Reading coach Ken Minor knows
his squad has three “tough” non-league games, but he feels
confident in his Blue Devils heading into the season.
Reading finished 7-4 overall
and 4-3 in the Cincinnati Hills League in 2006. Minor said
while his squad has improved the CHL has done so also.
Reading junior quarterback
Garrett Edwards, who is 6 feet 2 and 195 pounds, is expected
to make an impact. Minor said Edwards is a Division I
college prospect. Senior running back/defensive back Michael
Welling, a Division V second-team all-state selection, had
71 tackles and three fumble recoveries last season. He is
getting looks from Mid-American Conference schools, Minor
said.
Reading started seven
sophomores and a freshman last season for a team that made
the state playoffs. Only seven seniors were lost from last
year’s squad.
McNicholas, North College Hill
and Mount Healthy are Reading’s non-league games.
“It’s going to be a dogfight,”
Minor said. “…We have three non-league games that will be
tough.”
Reading opens at NCH Aug. 24 at
7:30 p.m.
