Colerain (above) and St. Xavier are locks to make the playoffs in Division I. The same can't be said for several other schools.

Final week has big playoff implications

Key games still remain

By Ed Letsinger

This is the final week of the Ohio high school football regular season and several local teams are still fighting to secure one of eight coveted playoff berths in six divisions.

Cincinnati could have as many as seven teams qualify in Division I, Region 4, according to the latest OHSAA Rankings.

Top-ranked St. Xavier along with Colerain are locks and Sycamore appears safe and all three will likely be hosting a first round playoff game.  It gets much more muddled from positions 4 through 8, with Moeller, Princeton, Elder, Harrison and Glen Este all still in the mix with key games remaining.

Moeller (6-2) faces St. X in a GCL contest this weekend while Elder’s road to a win is much easier in a non-league game Western Hills.  Princeton (7-2) plays Middletown and should rebound after being upset last week by Lakota East.  FAVC schools Harrison and Glen Este end the year with tough games against Division II powers Anderson and Winton Woods, respectively.

In Division II, Turpin, Anderson, Withrow, Edgewood and Kings are in good shape with Winton Woods needing help to get in.  Kings needs a win the most and should have no problem getting it against winless Walnut Hills.

Indian Hill and
Goshen look solid in Division III, Region 12.

In Division IV, Region 16,
Wyoming is in good shape for the playoffs and is battling for a home game in the first round, but faces a tough game with Indian Hill on Friday.  Clinton-Massie and North College Hill are hanging in there in the seventh and eighth positions.

Deer Park
looks solid in Division V, Region 20 while CHCA is holding on at No. 8 and needs to win on Friday against Cincinnati Country Day.

In Division VI, Region 24, Lockland should make it while CCD will likely need to beat CHCA and then get some help.
