Not only is the Anderson-Glen
Este game always a good rivalry, but Friday night it will
provide significant Harbin computer points for the playoffs.
While Glen Este is likely in
the playoffs in Division I, Anderson is looking to solidify
its chances in Division II.
Anderson (5-2, 2-0 Fort Ancient
Valley Conference Buckeye division) is at Glen Este (5-2,
2-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Both coaches have a great deal
of respect for each other’s programs and know what’s at
stake in this game.
“Anderson is always a tough
game for us,” Glen Este coach Zak Taylor said. “They don’t
like to lose to us. They have great tradition and are
well-coached.”
Anderson defeated Loveland 21-7
last week while the Trojans defeated Milford 45-13.
Anderson is led by senior
running back Elijah Storey, who is second in the FAVC in
rushing with 881 yards. Junior quarterback Daniel Rod is
fifth in the league in passing with 906 yards.
“Elijah and Daniel did a nice
job the second half against Loveland,” Anderson coach Jeff
Giesting said. “We struggled a bit in the first half, but
made some plays after halftime to take control of the game.”
Offensively, Glen Este is led
by sophomore running back Kyle Slater, who has rushed for
703 yards on 100 carries and nine touchdowns. Defensively,
junior defensive end Matt Perry has 3.5 sacks and a forced
fumble. Perry is tied for third in sacks in the league.
“If we want to win the game we
will have to be very efficient on offense,” Taylor said.
“(We need) lots of first downs and score every time we get
to the red zone. Defensively we can't give up any big
plays.”
