Highlands, Beechwood Win State Titles

NKY schools go 2-for-3 in finals; NCC comes up short

Beechwood and Highlands both won state football titles for the first time since 2004 while Newport Central Catholic’s bid for a three-peat came up short over the weekend at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Ky.

In Class 1A the Tigers (13-2) won a tight 38-35 contest over Lexington Christian Academy for their 10th overall title.

The top-ranked Tigers held a 38-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter but had to hold off the Eagles at the end...
