The Tigers
led from the opening tip until the final buzzer despite getting
just six points from junior forward and FAVC leading scorer
Bobby Capobianco, who came into the contest averaging 22 points
a game.
Loveland’s
size on the inside with Wozniak and Capobianco was enough to
counter Anderson’s defensive game plan.
“We are
lucky to have such big men on the inside that can handle the
ball. They really go after the ball on the glass and move
defenders out of the way with their size and strength,” said
Loveland coach Tim Partin.
Anderson
plays a very physical style of defense but the Redskins found
the going tough against the Loveland defense, managing to shoot
just 37.2 percent from the field for the game.
“I watched
them (Anderson) play earlier this week and I told my team that
this was probably the toughest and most physical defense they
would play all year,” said Partin.
The
Redskins found their shots in the second quarter with forward
John Runk finding a few openings around the basket. Anderson
took advantage of Capobianco being on the bench with two fouls
to pull to within 33-20 at halftime.
Excellent
ball movement and rotation away from the basket allowed Loveland
to take control of the game in the third quarter. With Kennedy
pumping in 3-pointers and feeding the big men down in the paint,
Loveland extended their lead to 47-31 with eight minutes left to
play and held on despite scoring just seven points in the final
quarter.
Nick
Truesdell scored a team-high 10 points for Anderson and pulled
in a game-high 12 rebounds. Runk added nine points and five
rebounds.
