Strong Showing For Local Schools Playing "In The Country"

 

Teams post combined 7-1 record

A “Who’s Who” of Ohio girls’ basketball participated in the fifth-annual Classic in the Country at Hiland High School over the weekend and the four Cincinnati schools who played turned in a strong showing, winning seven of eight games combined.

 

Local coaches' poll No. 2-ranked Mount Notre Dame, No. 4 Winton Woods and No. 5 Princeton all went 2-0.  Top-ranked Lakota West went 1-1.

 

The Firebirds (14-1) lost their first game of the year on Saturday, falling to Division III powerhouse Regina 64-58.  The Firebirds rebounded with a 82-68 win over Toledo Central Catholic on Sunday.

 

Mount Notre Dame cruised with a 65-51 win over Bishop McGuinness and 76-42 win over Waite.  Winton Woods (15-1) defeated Wadsworth 60-47 and Reynoldsburg 48-40.  Princeton (12-4) recorded a 57-43 win over Toledo Central Catholic and 58-49 win over Copley.

 

A total of 29 teams competed in 20 games that featured over 70 Division I college prospects, according to event organizers.

 

Fourteen of the competing teams were ranked in the MaxPreps.com Ohio top 25 poll.
