Ryle Rallies Past CovCath

Four-run seventh sends Raiders to state

Ryle rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Covington Catholic 7-6 in the Ninth Region championship game at Champion Windows Field.

Robert Layne connected on a walk-off single scoring Garrett Wagner giving the Raiders their first-ever regional baseball title.

CovCath had taken a 6-3 lead in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run by Josh Bleser and added two more runs on Ryle errors.

Ryle (32-6), which advanced to the Ninth Region title game last year before losing to Beechwood, will play the 12th Region champion in a best-of-three semi-state series next week.  The winner of that series advances to the state tournament June 13-16 at Applebee's Park in Lexington.
