Kentucky Baseball All “A” Classic

Opening round features tight games, blowout

Holy Cross rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Newport Central Catholic 5-4 in an opening round game of the 9th Region All “A” Classic.

 

Joe Sullivan connected on a bases-loaded single to score Ryan Stewart as the Indians posted the walk-off win.  A Stewart RBI single had tied the game earlier in the inning.

 

Jim Ryan pitched six strong innings for Holy Cross, striking out nine batters along the way.  Freshman Andy Roenker came on and got the win by pitching a scoreless seventh inning.

 

 

St. Henry jumped on Villa Madonna with a 10-run first inning en route to a 13-1 win.  The Crusaders recorded six hits in the blow-out inning with Ben Huebbing delivering a home run.

 

Pitcher Mitchell Smith gave up just three hits in six innings for the Crusaders.

Defending All “A” state champion Beechwood scored four runs in the bottom of sixth inning, breaking a scoreless tie and went on to defeat Bellevue 5-0 in their opening round game.

A.J. Smith pitched a complete-game shutout, scattering five hits.  Brady Slusher hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
